It's All About Making Sure We Take Care of Our Loved Ones, Even When We’re Not Around to Do It in Person.
A few weeks back, a client called me, totally distraught. Their spouse had just passed away unexpectedly, and they were left scrambling to pick up the pieces emotionally and physically.
See, the spouse who passed away used to handle all their bills, insurance, you name it—and all that info was locked behind a computer password. As if losing your spouse isn’t difficult enough now, she was stuck trying to sort out this situation. The surviving spouse had no clue what that password was.
Despite all the calls to tech support, they were hitting wall after wall, unable to access any of the critical information they needed. Sadly, it was a mess that was compounded by the emotional strain of the loss.
That whole situation got me thinking hard about my own situation. A while ago, my folks sat me down and announced they were making me the executor of their estate. I joked around at first, saying I didn’t want the job, but it hit me how real this all could get. I told them I didn't want to be left clueless, digging through their stuff to find important documents if something were to happen to them. It’s tough enough dealing with loss without having to play detective with paperwork.
As you know, we believe it is our God-given mission to help and protect others, especially when life gets complicated.
So we put our heads together here at NUMA and asked, “How can we help you avoid this situation? If you are the parent, spouse, or executor, how can you give a gift that will help ease the stress during this time of great emotional stress?”
We came up with the idea to create a binder, a sort of all-in-one place to jot down every vital bit of info their family might need if they’re no longer around. All of the import insurance details, bank accounts, even who to call about the house and car stuff.
It’s the best gift you could give someone, especially if you’re the one handling things for your folks or if you’re leaving someone in charge of your estate.
It's all about ensuring we care for our loved ones, even when we’re not around to do it in person.
Thank you!
